MEXICO CITY, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Argentinian striker Alexis Canelo scored either side of halftime as Toluca beat Atletico San Luis 3-2 in their Liga MX Apertura clash on Sunday.
The 28-year-old opened his account in the 38th minute at Toluca's La Bombonera stadium, after Atletico's German Berterame had canceled out Michael Estrada's opener.
Canelo extended the hosts' lead just after halftime before Nicolas Ibanez converted from the penalty spot on the hour mark.
It was Toluca's first win of the campaign following their 3-1 defeat at Monterrey on the opening weekend. Atletico San Luis drew 1-1 at home to Juarez in their first match of the season.
On Saturday, Club America made it two wins from as many matches with a 4-0 rout of Club Tijuana and Pachuca drew 1-1 at Tigres UANL.
The Liga MX Apertura season began on July 24, marking football's return in Mexico after a four-month coronavirus hiatus.
