BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- With 904 deaths in the past 24 hours, India's total death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic surpassed the 170,000 mark to reach 170,179, according to the data released by the federal government Monday.

Besides, 168,912 new cases took the total tally to 13,527,717.

SYDNEY -- A research report by Australia's McKell Institute found that the delay of Australian government's COVID-19 vaccine rollout might cause a cost of over 1.4 billion Australian dollars (1.07 billion U.S. dollars).

The report, published by the policy issue think tank in April, said such a cost was on even the most optimistic scenarios. Australia's vaccine rollout is running well behind the announced schedule.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina registered 15,262 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the national tally to 2,532,562, according to the country's ministry of health.

The ministry also reported 132 more deaths from the disease, taking the nationwide death toll to 57,779.

SYDNEY -- The Solomon Islands has received a batch of Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines, the first among Pacific island countries.

The shipment of vaccines developed by Sinopharm was received Sunday night by Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands Li Ming and Solomon Islands Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga and Health Minister Culwick Togamana at the airport of Honiara, capital of the south Pacific island nation.

WELLINGTON -- A worker for a managed isolation quarantine (MIQ) hotel in central Auckland, New Zealand, has tested positive for COVID-19 Sunday, marking the third consecutive case from the same quarantine hotel, according to the country's Health Ministry.

A security guard for the hotel tested positive last week after one cleaner was found COVID-19 positive on March 21.
