BUENOS AIRES, May 9 (Xinhua) -- River Plate scored twice in each half to secure a place in Argentina's Primera Division quarterfinals with a 4-1 home win over Aldosivi on Sunday.
Gonzalo Montiel put the hosts ahead by converting a 16th-minute penalty but Malcom Braida headed in an equalizer after Francisco Grahl's corner.
Colombian striker Rafael Borre restored River's lead on the stroke of halftime before Jose Paradela and Matias Suarez completed the rout with late goals.
"We knew that we were in control of our own destiny and we backed ourselves to make it through," Borre said. "We showed great character because we felt obliged to advance."
The result set up a meeting between River Plate and fierce rivals Boca Juniors in the last eight next weekend.
In other quarterfinal fixtures, Colon will meet Talleres, Estudiantes will clash with Independiente and Velez Sarsfied are due to play Racing Club.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Independiente beat Huracan 3-1, Lanus overcame Talleres 1-0, Union Santa Fe drew 1-1 at Colon, Platense romped to a 4-1 home victory over Rosario Central, Racing beat San Lorenzo 2-0 at home, Argentinos Juniors won 2-0 at home to Estudiantes and Central Cordoba drew 1-1 at Arsenal Sarandi.
