WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Juan Reynoso revealed he is "anxious" about making his debut as manager of Peru's national team in friendly outings against Mexico and El Salvador in the United States.

The 52-year-old was appointed head coach of the Blanquirroja last month, replacing Argentina's Ricardo Gareca.

"I'm happy, calm and a little anxious because it is a life dream that I am fulfilling," Reynoso told reporters on Thursday.

Peru will meet Mexico at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Saturday and El Salvador at Audi field in Washington DC next Tuesday.

The former Peru national team captain said his players were in good spirits, having overcome the disappointment of losing a World Cup qualifying playoff to Australia in June.

"What happened against Australia hit them hard, but they are in a better place now," Reynoso said. "I see a team that is hungry for opportunities to compete," he added.
