RIO DE JANEIRO, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Argentine forward Pablo Vegetti scored one goal and set up another as Vasco da Gama recovered from a goal down to secure a 2-1 home win over Santos in their Brazilian Serie A season opener on Sunday.
Alvaro Barreal gave the visitors an early lead when he ran onto Tiquinho Soares' through ball and chipped a delightful shot over goalkeeper Leo Jardim.
The hosts equalized through Nuno Moreira, who nodded home from close range after Vegetti's headed flick.
Vegetti put his side ahead with a glancing header that beat goalkeeper Gabriel Brazao at his near post after Dimitri Payet's floating free-kick.
Earlier, Palmeiras was held to a goalless home draw by reigning champions Botafogo, and Corinthians drew 1-1 at Bahia.
