At least 13 killed in head-on collision in northeast Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 people were killed on Sunday when a double-decker passenger bus collided head-on with a compact car in Argentina's northeastern province of Misiones, local media reported, citing authorities.

According to the Misiones government, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. local time on a bridge amid thick fog, and the bus carrying passengers from the city of Obera to Puerto Iguazu fell into a stream below due to the impact of the collision.

"The accident, which occurred early this morning, took place on National Route 14, at kilometer 892, when a bus belonging to the Sol del Norte company, which was carrying around 50 passengers from Obera, collided head-on with a car traveling in the opposite direction," the Misiones government said in a statement.

According to Hector Gonzalez, minister of health in Misiones, around 30 people had to be admitted to the hospital and several were already discharged.
