BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- River Plate is preparing a bid to sign Estudiantes and Argentina international midfielder Santiago Ascacibar, according to media reports in the South American country.
River has already contacted the 28-year-old's agent about the possibility of a deal during Argentina's upcoming summer transfer window, TyC Sports reported.
It added that the former Stuttgart and Cremonese player has also attracted the interest of a large club in Brazil.
Ascacibar, who joined Estudiantes from Hertha Berlin in 2023, is contracted to the La Plata-based club until December 2026.
River Plate is reportedly seeking to revamp its squad ahead of the 2026 season following a disappointing 2025, which included the club's elimination from the Clausura tournament in the round of 16 last week.
