BUENOS AIRES, March 2 (Xinhua) -- River Plate is set to appoint Eduardo Coudet as its new manager, according to widespread media reports in Argentina.

Coudet, who represented River as a player from 1999 to 2004, parted ways with Alaves on Monday after the Spanish club reportedly agreed to a one-million-euro (1.17 million U.S. dollars) release fee.

The 51-year-old is expected to arrive in Buenos Aires this week to finalize details of a contract running until December 2027.

The former Celta Vigo and Atletico Mineiro boss led Alaves to 17 wins, 16 draws and 22 losses after taking charge of the Basque side in December 2024.

River has been searching for a new manager since Marcelo Gallardo ended his second spell in charge last Thursday.

The club is currently sixth in Argentina's 15-team Apertura Group B standings.
