RIO DE JANEIRO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras has completed the signing of Argentine defender Alexander Barboza from Brazilian Serie A rival Botafogo, both clubs said on Friday.

The 31-year-old signed a deal that runs until December 2028 after Palmeiras reportedly agreed to a transfer fee of around 4 million U.S. dollars.

"I'm very happy about this new experience in Brazilian football and I'm sure it's going to work out," Barboza told Palmeiras' official website.

"I'm going to work hard for it and I'm really eager to get started. The fans can be certain that I'll give my all in every match because that's how I understand football."

Barboza made 123 appearances for Botafogo after joining the Rio de Janeiro outfit from Paraguay's Libertad in January 2024.
